CITY COUNCIL
The Ashland City Council meets on the 1st & 3rd Monday of each month at 5:30 PM. Agenda items must be submitted no later than 12:30 PM on the Thursday prior to the meeting.

Mayor Larry J. Fetner earned the Emeritus Certification of the Certified Municipal Official Program offered through the Alabama League of Municipalities. Mayor Fetner has been working to achieve this certification since he took office as District 5 Council Member in 2000.

Councilwoman Annette Gaither earned the Advanced Certification of the Certified Municipal Official Program offered through the Alabama League of Municipalities. Councilwoman Gaither has been working to achieve this certification since she took office as District 4 Council Member in 2016.

Congratulation to Councilwoman Bobbie J. Steed

Councilwoman Steed received the 30 year Distinguished Service Award from the Alabama League of Municipalities on May 22, 2018. Councilwoman Steed has been serving as District 2 Council Member since 1988.

Dianne Ballard: District 1

  • ​​Sworn in as Councilwoman in November of 2020.

  • Happily married to Willie Ballard for 43 years. 

  • Employed with Clay County School System for 3 years. 

  • Dianne and Willie share three beautiful children, Kizzy Ballard, Cheryl Jennings, and Cedric Burney, four grandchildren, Kwasi Jennings, Jeston Jennings, Kris Jennings, and Angel Jennings, and two great grandchildren Presliegh Jennings, and Haven Jennings. 

Bobbie J. Steed ( Mayor Pro Tem):   District 2  

  • Over thirty years of service as Ashland City Council Member.

  • Reelected to her ninth term on August of 2020.

  • Retired from McKinney Learning Center in 2000.

  • Received the  year distinguished service award on May 22, 2018.

Kim M. Cain: District 3

  • Sworn in as Councilwoman in November of 2016

  • Reelected to a second term in August of 2020.

  • Earned a BS degree in Marketing from Jacksonville State University.

  • Earned  a BS and Masters Degree in Education from University of Alabama at Birmingham. 

  • Devoted Kindergarten teacher at Ashland Elementary School as for 27 years. 

  • Located to Ashland, Alabama in 1987 and states often " I Live Here on Purpose!" Mrs. Cain has two beautiful daughters Jordan and Hillary Crist. 

Annette F. Gaither: District 4

  • Sworn in as Councilwoman in November of 2016.
  • Reelected to a second term in August of 2020.
  • Married to Lynn Gaither and Located to Ashland, Alabama in 1991.

  • Worked in Manufacturing for 15 years before becoming an Office and Credit Manager for Marvins. Went on to work in layout and design for Marvins. 

  • Served Clay County in the Circuit Clerks Office from 1997-2011 when she retired. Mrs. Gaither returned part-time to the Circuit Clerks Offices in 2016 and can still be found there several days a week.

Tommy Cantrell: District 5
 

  • Sworn in as Council Member in November of 2016

  • Reelected to a second term in August of 2020.

  • Married to Kerri Cantrell with three beautiful children. 

  • Works for Warrior Tractor and Equipment Company.
